Montefalco, Umbria, Italy
Montefalco Sagrantino holds a singular place in Italian wine. A grape once known for its formidable tannins has, through time, care and precise selection, become one of Umbria’s most expressive and elegant reds.
Grown almost exclusively in Montefalco – the “Cuore Verde” of Italy – Sagrantino has deep historical roots, first documented in the 16th century as a sacred wine crafted by Franciscan monks for religious ceremonies.
Today, the variety represents a renaissance of authenticity. Modern producers have learned to reveal its character not by dominating the grape, but by listening to it.
Fratelli Pardi, whose Sagrantino vineyards lie entirely within the Montefalco municipality, harvest only perfectly ripe clusters, often returning to the same row multiple times.
Their approach allows the grape’s natural voice to emerge: purity of fruit, refined tannins and a terroir-driven identity shaped by clay-limestone soils and dramatic day-night temperature shifts.

The result is a wine of depth and precision. Aromas of damask rose, pink pepper, dark berries and undergrowth evolve gracefully with age, supported by structure and remarkable longevity.
Montefalco Sagrantino remains a rarity in a world of early-drinking wines – a red that rewards patience and celebrates origin.
